Compare sizes

See how a new size differs from what is on the car now: height, width, speedometer reading and ground clearance.

How close is close enough?

Most tire shops treat a new size within 3% of the original diameter as a straight swap. Between 3% and 5% it often still fits, but the speedometer error becomes noticeable and clearance at full steering lock should be checked. Beyond 5% you usually need a lift or leveling kit, a speedometer recalibration and sometimes new gears.

Ground clearance

A taller tire raises the axle by half the difference in diameter. Going from 31.6 in to 32.7 in adds about 0.55 in under the axle, not the full 1.1 in.
